R E C A P  February, March & April

More than 500 people attended All That’s Left of You and The Voice of Hind Rajab, providing an important, heart-rending perspective on life in Palestine not found in the mainstream media.

The 2026 OSCAR NOMINATED SHORTS set a new record, with close to 2,000 admissions, thanks to strong programs in all three categories and enthusiastic patron and volunteer support in spreading the word.
SPECIAL THANKS: WVXU – Cincinnati Public Radio; CET-48 – Public Media Connect; Movers & Makers and Roadside Attractions.

Also in March, The River Rat Puppet Collective turned the Garfield into a pop-up theater, presenting CAMP LORETTO, an entertaining on-stage adventure featuring a hilarious mix of hand and shadow puppets, music, creative sound effects, corny jokes, audience participation and … a ‘possum puppet and a live turtle! A hit at the ’25 Fringe Festival with a large audience at the Garfield, Jack Fogle and his band of merry pranksters will return to the Fringe this year!

Tuesday April 7 was International Beaver Day, perfect for our third annual presentation of HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS.  A typical HOB confab – non-stop raucous laughter and cheering.

After test screening with positive results at the Garfield last November, Cameron Marshall’s HAPPY SORROWS will have its world premiere at Memorial Hall. Lots of fun red carpet glitz and glam with after-party, plus filmmakers in attendance.

FILM FESTIVAL MERGER
The merger between the Cindependent and Over The Rhine film festivals was recently announced. This is exciting and potentially great for the Cincinnati cinema scene. With over 5,000 film festivals in North America, local festivals are the bedrock in the hierarchy, and yet they are also vulnerable to the changing conditions in the film industry. This expedient and visionary combination of marketing, fundraising and management efforts could strengthen solvency, attendance and sponsorship, while enhancing curatorial focus. The 2026 festival is planned for September 17 – 20, we all look forward to announcements and coming events!
