The UC College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) presents two excellent music documentaries in a single program: CCM’S Cincinnati Sounds: Exploring a Musical City’s Spaces, Places and Sounds, and Yemi Oyediran’s King of Them All: The Story of King Records. The combination is the brainchild of CCM musicologist Kristy Swift, and the docs are a perfect fit, at 25 and 75 minutes, respectively. The first screening is at 3:30 and the program repeats at 7:00.
Directed by CCM’s Melissa Godoy, Spaces, Places & Sounds brings us the artists, music and locations that give Cincinnati its unique character – sharing the roots and evolution that connect us all.
Director Yemi Oyediran’s King of Them All explores the history of King Records and founder Syd Nathan, focusing on the multi-racial Appalachian and African American cultural melting pot that spawned blues, country, R&B and rock-n-roll.
