CWC NEWS — OCTOBER FILMS AT THE GARFIELD

In October we have exclusive presentation of three remarkable films at the Garfield.  While each is totally different, they share a similar throughline — what we learn of our family’s past helps us understand and prepare for the future.

A moving documentary about a first-generation American woman seeking to understand the legacy of childhood amid cross-cultural and generational influences. Colette Ghunim travels with her family from Chicago to the lands her parents fled as children. Her father was expelled from Palestine during the 1948 Nakba, while her mother escaped domestic abuse in Mexico City.

Their ancestral journey explores generational healing and the often complicated relationships between the children of immigrants and their parents. Post-film discussion after each screening.

Adult tickets $10.00 advance, $15.00 at the door.
Student tickets $8.00 advance, $12.00 at the door.

You can thoroughly enjoy COLORS OF TIME just for what it is – a delightful romantic drama dealing with family secrets and art history. Yet there is much more: in a larger sense the film speaks about the future through the rediscovery of the past – what truly matters – affections, bonds, and gestures that travel across generations and shape our lives.

Simultaneously poignant and inspiring, a hidden story emerges that connects the great art and artists of La Belle Époque with everyday lives. Cedric Klapisch’s gem is inventive, cleverly written, beautifully photographed and superbly acted by a terrific ensemble cast. It is easy and fun to watch – well worth your time!

Post-film discussion follows each screening.

Adult tickets $10.00 advance, $15.00 at the door.
Student tickets $8.00 advance, $12.00 at the door.
