Wary that resurgent infection will dampen consumer confidence in markets that have reopened theaters, the big studios also face diminished revenue caused by 50-75% reductions in theater capacity mandated by many states. Recently the major studios have pulled a few 2020 theatrical releases and delayed fourteen others until later this year. Another fourteen films (so far) have been moved to 2021.
Here’s the list of changes as of June 14: (New updates below in Red)

☀ 2020 Cancellations

Universal Pictures pulled “The King of Staten Island” from the drive-in theaters scheduled to show it in June 2020, moving straight to VOD –  exacerbating existing tension between Universal and exhibitors.
Disney pulled the August 9 theatrical release of “Artemis Fowl,” taking it straight to VOD on June 12, 2020.
Paramount pulled the theatrical run of “The Lovebirds” and sold it to Netflix for digital VOD release.
Warner Bros. delayed the summer 2020 opening of “In The Heights” indefinitely.

Solstice Studios moved “Unhinged” from July 1, 2020 to July 10, 2020.
Warner Bros. moved Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” from July 17, 2020 to July 31, 2020.  June 25: “Tenet” pushed again, to August 12, 2020;  July 20: postponed indefinitely — may open first overseas, where cinemas are safer.
Paramount and Nickelodeon Studios moved “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run” from July 21, 2020 to August 7, 2020.
STX moved “Greenland” from June 12, 2020, to July 31, 2020, to August 14, 2020.
 June 26: Disney moves “Mulan” from July 24, 2020 to August 21,  2020.
Jordan Peele’s new film “Candyman” moved from June 12 to September 25, 2020.
June 26: Paramount moves “Without Remorse” from September 18, 2020 to October 2,  2020.
Warner Bros. moved “Wonder Woman 1984” from August 14, 2020 to October 2, 2020.
Wes Anderson’s first-ever anthology, “The French Dispatch” slated for Cannes in May, moved to July 24, 2020 and now to October 16, 2020.
Focus Features horror movie “Come Play” moved from Friday July 24, 2020, to Friday October 30, 2020.
Disney’s opening of “Black Widow” moved back to November 6, 2020.
Disney and Pixar’s “Soul” moved from June 19, 2020 to November 20, 2020.
