Landfall looks beyond the impact of Hurricane María in Puerto Rico, exploring conditions that continue to devastate the island – crumbling infrastructure, intense poverty, government corruption and offshore speculators.
Series curator Mary Leonard will be here from Puerto Rico, and with associate producer Lale Namerrow will participate in audience Q&A via live interactive remote, following the film.
Admission is free, but this event is limited to FotoFocus Passport holders, who also need to register in advance via the Garfield event page.
“THE LAST TRUCK: Closing of a GM Plant” and “AMERICAN FACTORY”
October 9, 4:00 PM
The opening event for the Julia Reichert: Fifty Years in Film retrospective brings us two compelling documentaries dealing with real people and events in Southwest Ohio. Last Truck was nominated for an Oscar for Best Short Documentary and American Factory won an Oscar for Best Feature Documentary.
Line producer Melissa Godoy, accompanied by her Production Masterclass from the U.C. College-Conservatory of Music, will offer behind-the-scenes insights about the process of making documentaries set in an auto plant; dealing with creative and technical challenges; and editing technique that put the films’ characters in the foreground.
